WATCH: Tennessee Elementary School Students Run Toy Drive for Classmate Who Lost Belongings in a House Fire
Sometimes, you get by with a little help from your friends. Sometimes, it's a little help from your classmates.
Such was the case for one Tennessee boy who attends Philadelphia Elementary School, Daniel Hunt, who lost his belongings in a recent house fire. Rather than offering words of comfort alone, his teachers and fellow third-graders got to work in doing something special for the young boy. A Facebook post from the school described their efforts: "Last week, one of our Warriors, Daniel Hunt, lost all of this belongings in a house fire. His 3rd [sic] grade teachers and classmates started a secret toy drive for him to replace the toys he lost. He received the toys today and he was so surprised and thankful!"
What a sweet and thoughtful gesture from these teachers and young students. As Knoxville's WVLT 8 originally reported, the generosity of these teachers and students was not lost on the Hunt family. "I sat and cried at work for a good 45 minutes. I'm just so overwhelmed at all the love and the community coming together for us. It's just very overwhelming and a blessing," Hunt's mother, Kristen Hunt, told the news outlet.
Long after Daniel outgrows the toys, we know the kindness from his teachers and classmates will linger in his mind for many years to come.
