Queen Elizabeth has granted the BCC unprecedented access to never-before-seen footage from her childhood. A new documentary, Elizabeth: The Unseen Queen, will feature home movies filmed by the Queen herself, her parents, and Prince Philip.

To accompany the news of this documentary, three previously unseen photos of Queen Elizabeth as a young woman have been released.

In one, the Queen—then Princess Elizabeth—wears a red gingham shirt as she beams at her engagement ring. She had just accepted Prince Philip's proposal during a vacation to Balmoral Castle in 1946. Their engagement wouldn't be announced to the public for another year.

In another photo, Elizabeth and her sister Princess Margaret are with their father, King George VI, onboard HMS Vanguard in 1947. The battleship was built during World War II, and its first voyage after completing a sea trial was to bring the royal family to South Africa.

Elizabeth: The Unseen Queen will also feature home video footage of the royals, including Princess Elizabeth as a young mother, and visiting Balmoral in 1951—King George VI's last visit to the family's beloved Scottish retreat.

"We are honoured that The Queen has entrusted the BBC with such unprecedented access to her personal film collection. This documentary is an extraordinary glimpse into a deeply personal side of the Royal Family that is rarely seen, and it's wonderful to be able to share it with the nation as we mark her Platinum Jubilee," Simon Young, the BBC’s Commissioning Editor for History, said in a statement.

According to the BBC, the documentary "relies largely on the Queen’s own voice and words, alongside newsreel audio. The filmmakers listened to over three hundred of The Queen’s speeches, spanning over eight decades. The result is a visually rich and immersive film of unparalleled historical record."

In a newly released clip from The Unseen Queen, the British royal family can be seen relaxing on board HMS Vanguard in 1947. In this preview, there is also audio from two of the Queen's speeches: her 1996 Christmas broadcast, and her June 1947 address at the Guildhall. Watch:

The documentary Elizabeth: The Unseen Queen will debut on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Sunday, May 29, at 7:45pm BST. It's unclear if or when it will air in the U.S.
