Adult Swim has shared the opening scene of Rick and Morty season six as the show returned on September 4.

The season's first episode, entitled "Solaricks," picks up right where season five left off. Rick and Morty are still stuck in a now-destroyed Citadel with a broken portal gun following Evil Morty's escape, and all hope is lost. Rick goes off with a monologue detailing how they have no idea how to get home and they ultimately decide to face their fate — lost forever.

With the season premiere, co-creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland opened up about when Rick and Morty could possibly end. Roiland explained that he thinks "the show could run forever. The show could run as long as we want it to," while Harmon revealed that the show's longevity "just feels infinite." Harmon added, “And I think that might be the cause of some frustration on the fans’ part, because my original commitment to just, I think a good TV show is one that lasts 1000 episodes. You don’t design a paper airplane to land at a certain spot, a certain distance for you. A good paper airplane is the one that stays in the air forever, and that’s impossible but you fold it in a way that that’s the goal.”
