Here's what we know about the project so far:

Set in Northern Ireland in 1885, the story follows Beth Winters over the 24-hours surrounding her 23rd birthday.

A description of the drama paints a picture of what viewers can expect. Death and Nightingales "is a riveting story of love, betrayal, deception and revenge, set in the haunting countryside of 1885 Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. In this undivided province of the British Empire, neighbors observe each other and inform. It’s a world of spies, confessions and double dealing; where a pervading sense of beauty is shot through with menace and impending doom."

No spoilers here, but Starz promises a "devastating climax" to the story, and describes the series as "a powerful and gripping drama that follows a woman struggling to control her own destiny and will illuminate tensions that tear both families and nations apart."

The cast is stacked.

Ann Skelly, who is appearing now in The Nevers, plays Beth Winters; her step-father Billy is played by Matthew Rhys (Perry Mason, The Americans). Jamie Dornan (The Fall, Fifty Shades) also stars as Liam Ward.

The series is based on Eugene McCabe’s modern Irish classic of the same name.

When the book was released in the US in 2002, The New Yorker described the story as "a heartbreaking modern fable," while author Colm Toibin hailed it as "a miracle of a novel."
