Watch Lil Nas X Keep His Cool During a Major Wardrobe Malfunction on 'Saturday Night Live'

Major props to Lil Nas X for keeping his cool despite having every reason to panic when he appeared to split his pants open during the season finale of “Saturday Night Live.” The headline-grabbing artist was halfway through a provocative performance of his hit single “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” when his lace-up leather pants ripped right at the zipper. This is why you don’t pole dance in pants, people!

Thankfully, Lil Nas X felt the malfunction before anyone else noticed it and quickly covered his crotch with his hand. It was actually only his “oopsies” grin that gave him away. After correcting the incident, Lil Nas X carried on with the rest of his performance but abandoned the choreography, opting instead to stand very, very still. Ultimately, he got through the song without the need for censors or blurring and later addressed the snafu on social media.

At first I was afraid to even perform” wrote Nas X the nesxt day on Twitter. “Then we rehearsed for 2 weeks, then all of the dancers got removed because one had covid and new ones had to learn the routine in 24 hours, and then i ended up ripping my pants and couldn’t finish. everything happens for a reason tho lol."

Indeed it does. Now Lil Nas X belongs in the same rarefied circle of televised wadrobe malfunction survivors as Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, and Celine Dion. Now, that is some very good company to have.
