Kelly Clarkson often treats her fans to epic covers for her “Kellyoke” sessions on The Kelly Clarkson Show, and we’re loving her recent rendition of a quintessential 80s hit. The Grammy winner blew listeners away with her signature powerhouse vocals when giving her own spin on “Maneater” by Hall & Oates last week. (No, we’re still not over it!)

While many know the song to be a danceable pop track, Clarkson performed her version as a more slowed-down, stripped-back ballad. The American Idol alum was backed by her usual band, My Band Y’all, and garnered overwhelming applause from her audience and fans online.

Clarkson’s team uploaded a video of her performance from her show (which is relocating to New York City this fall) to YouTube and Instagram, where many fans began sharing their thoughts and commending the cover.

Kelly Clarkson Gives “Maneater” By Hall & Oates Her Own Spin

In the clip, the mom of two donned a long-sleeved, boho chic maxi dress and wore her long, blonde hair down, parted in the center and styled into elegant, loose waves. To accessorize her get-up, the “Mine” singer added shiny gold hoop earrings and beige, heeled boots.

As for her glam, the “Since U Been Gone” hitmaker went for a smokey eye look with silver eyeshadow and sky-high lashes, and she also rocked rosy blush on her cheekbones. She topped it all off with a glossy pink pout.

Fans Praise Clarkson’s Latest Powerhouse Cover

Many listeners praised the jazzier, bluesy and new take on the Hall & Oates anthem in the YouTube post’s comment section. “What a hauntingly beautiful performance. Great job Kelly and the band y’all,” one wrote as another added, “This version is mesmerizing & captivating.”

Someone else pointed out just how intricate and layered Clarkson’s cover was, writing, “Wow, I didn’t even recognize the song until the chorus. The original was a bop, but I really this jazzy version. And of course Kelly’s voice is always next level.”

One other fan also noted how Clarkson— who has recently delivered a riveting rendition of Taylor Swift’s “Clean,” a moving cover of Billie Eilish’s “Happier Than Ever,” and who also duetted with Pink for a performance of “Just Give Me A Reason”— can “truly sing anything.”

A Clarkson devotee commented, “After so many Kellyoke covers, now, every single time a listen to any song, I wonder how it would sound on Kelly’s voice.” (We wholeheartedly agree). The Voice coach is also set to release her  tenth studio album Chemistry next month, so we’re marking our calendars for June 23rd!
