Say what you will about John Mulaney (and people are saying a lot), but the dude can tell a joke. Last night, the stand-up returned to Late Night with Seth Meyers to set the record straight on some of the rumors swirling about his personal life. He left no gossip blog headline unturned—the intervention his friends staged on his behalf, his new romance with actress Olivia Munn—and, in turn, delivered some of his best material to date, showing how personal turmoil, when handled carefully, can transform into comedic gold.

To answer your most pressing question: Yes, he is expecting a child with his Munn."I got into this relationship with someone incredible ... and we're having a baby together," said Mulaney. "I'm gonna be a Dad."

Whispers of the actress's possible pregnancy appeared online over the weekend after fans began speculating that she was concealing a baby bump in recent Instagram photos and paparazzi shots.

It's just the latest development in what has been a whirlwind romance for the pair who reportedly met at church in Los Angeles soon after Mulaney emerged, in February, from a two-month stay in rehab. (It was his second visit in less than a year.) He had just recently also filed for divorce from his wife of six years, the artist Anna Marie Tendler.

The details and timeline of John Mulaney's Very Eventful Year have been hard to pin down, but last night, Meyers invited his friend to set the record straight. "You really crammed so much into a year," he joked. "I really did, especially for someone who used to have many years of not much interesting," Mulaney replied in his signature self-effacing style. He sounded like himself again.

Mulaney was reflective and hilarious as he described the beginning of his relationship with Munn: "She got to date me right out of recovery which is what they call a reverse catch," the stand-up comedian joked. In a more serious moment, he described coming out of treatment as having "newborn Bambie legs," then immediately twisted the reflection into a pitch-perfect punchline: "You know how when Bambie's born, Bambie's like, 'Hey, I used to be on cocaine!'"

But Mulaney's best effort came from his discussion with Meyers about the intervention that the host and a few other "alternative comedians over the ago of 40" staged right after Mulaney hosted Saturday Night Live in October. "So how was the intervention for you?" asked Meyers. The two didn't beat around the bush in describing the experience.

"I remember walking in and going, 'Okay, okay!'" joked Mulaney. "I needed to be the smartest person in the room even at the intervention, so I remember saying to all of you, 'Before you all read your letter, I just want to say I have a drug problem, and I need help.'" Another highlight arrived when Mulaney described knowing things were serious when Fred Armisen, for once, wasn't doing a bit. "Fred was serious. Do you know how offputting that is?"

The conversation ended poignantly with Mulaney expressing his gratitude for his friends and new relationship. "You guys saved me from drugs, and Olivia and this baby have helped save me from myself," said Mulaney. "I don't have a joke for that. I'm just really grateful."
