Watch This Guy Try Out Arnold Schwarzenegger's Workout and Diet for a Day

Yesterday was Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 73rd birthday. Don’t worry if you didn’t get the bodybuilding icon anything. Honestly, both a mini-horse and a donkey freely roam the man’s home (including the gym), so whatever gift you offer would probably be superfluous. He’s already living his best life.

Still, it never hurts to pay respect to a legend. That’s what YouTuber Will Tennyson did with his latest video: In tribute to the king, by trying to live a day in his shoes. Tennyson decided to emulate Arnold’s routine on an arms and shoulder day, but he didn’t just copy the workout. He went all in, waking up at 5 AM and even making himself read a newspaper. (Schwarzenegger is of the print generation, and he reportedly sticks with that habit.)

After feeding his animals and doing 45 minutes of cardio, Tennyson downed one of the Terminator’s signature morning shakes. It includes one unexpected ingredient: a full, raw egg—including the shell. Tennyson, probably like most people, had never made a shake with eggshells. He says they’re not bad, though; a little bit like gritty chia seeds.

From there he showers and moves on to Arnold’s breakfast. Schwarzenegger has also been making his own bread, so Tennyson gives that a go before sitting down to a 1,000-calorie first meal of the day. It’s oatmeal drizzled with honey, turkey bacon, toast, and eggs. That puts him up to five eggs for the day; he notes that in his prime Arnold got most of his protein from eggs.

From there Tennyson makes his way to the gym, ready to emulate Schwarzenegger’s peak-era arms and shoulder workout. To see how it went, check out the video.
