After its simultaneous theater and streaming release on October 21, 2021, Dune is available to watch again.

Based on Frank Herbert’s acclaimed series of the same name, Dune is a complex science-fiction tale about a boy named Paul who fulfills a prophecy and rises through the ranks of a small but mighty group of warriors. That’s the vague, simple way of explaining a large and winding plot that takes place over the course of six books and 18 prequels.

But the film will only cover (part of) the first book in the series, so no need to have a full primer of everything the novels go over. And it omits a few parts from the first book too. It’s hard enough to do a decent film adaptation of the first book, as David Lynch’s 1984 version clearly demonstrates. There are a lot of unfamiliar terms and plotlines that intersect, and it’s recommended if you’re approaching the books for the first time, you grab a copy with a glossary in the back.

Like Game of Thrones, though, you don’t need to read through all the texts to enjoy the movie. Dune stars Timothée Chalamet, Dave Bautista, Jason Momoa, and Oscar Isaac. And that’s just some of the cast. With any luck, the film will be only the start of a new science-fiction universe, with a movie franchise and a television series both to potentially look forward to.

But we’re getting ahead of ourselves. If you're interested in heading to Arrakis and watching the first movie, you can finally stream it from home as much as you want. No more fear of it leaving the streaming platform.

Here’s how to stream and watch Dune.
