Watch Donald Trump try and fail to kiss Melania Trump at State Arrival Ceremony

President Trump and first lady Melania Trump welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte, to the White House this week ahead of the formal state dinner planned for this evening.

Yesterday, the political families planted a tree together on the White House lawn, and today they stood together for the state arrival ceremony, with both President Trump and President Macron giving speeches.

The first lady, however, stole the show with her stunning outfit for the event. She wore an all-white Michael Kors suit with a matching wide-brimmed hat. The outfit was a big hit on social media.

But the hat became the center of attention for another reason: President Trump couldn’t maneuver his way around the brim to kiss his wife’s cheeks. As seen in the video below, he tries, hesitates, then settles for a fake kiss on either cheek.

Funny enough, President Macron managed to make his way around the hat just fine, making contact with the first lady’s cheeks.

Twitter blew up with responses wondering if Melania had purposefully worn the hat to avoid her husband, given their lack of public affection in the past.

We obviously don’t know the real reason Melania wore the hat — we suspect it was just another flawless fashion decision — but MSNBC caught another moment from the ceremony, where President Trump tries to hold his wife’s hand and she declines. Perhaps Twitter users have a point.
