In a new Instagram video, Dr. Pimple Popper—aka, dermatologist and TLC host Dr. Sandra Lee, MD — pops a patient’s large cyst, sending its gray contents flying across the room. The projectile cyst matter is chunky and ash-like in appearance, making the video gloriously gruesome viewing for any popaholics. Thankfully this one is a silent video, which is one less sense damaged by viewing.
In the short clip, Dr. Lee makes a half-inch incision with surgical shears in the middle of the cyst. She then pinches the cyst firmly with four fingers, causing the growth to erupt suddenly. The cyst forcefully spews its contents onto the famed derm’s uniform shirt, an impressive feat as Dr. Lee is a good two feet away from the incision site. The badge of gray gunk on Dr. Pimple Popper’s shirt is truly a testament to the cyst’s incredible range.
There is a reason for the cyst's gray coloring. Cysts are filled with dead skin cells and keratin, and can sometimes be grayed due to the melanin content in a person’s skin. The patient in this video appears to have a medium skin tone, making the hue unsurprising. But what will always be surprising is some cyst gunk flying in your direction. Dr. Lee calls it the “Splash Zone” for a reason.
