Watch Andy Samberg Relive 'SNL' Memories and Tease 'Palm Springs'

If you take a look back at the past two decades of Saturday Night Live! cast members, you’d have a hard time finding a better on-camera duo than Andy Samberg and Bill Hader—who made their first teamup during an early-aughts “Weekend Update” bit.

“We were buddies instantly,” Samberg said. “And we auditioned at the same time. We flew to New York to be hired at the same time and to get something on together was really exciting… I wanted to basically find a way to hitch my wagon to his talent train.”

In our newest episode of “Explain This,” where we ask celebrities to do a rundown of their past on-camera escapades, Samberg ran through a few memories from his SNL, Lonely Island, and even junior high days. He also teased his time-looping new film that debuts on Hulu this Friday, Palm Springs—which he says is “a movie I’m really happy about and proud of.” (For good reason, too—reviews have it pegged as the romcom of the summer.)

Samberg, as you well know, has been a part of quite a few memorable and slightly batshit sketches. (He gives a play-by-play of his I Think You Should Leave scuffle in the video, if you were curious.) Here, he breaks down a few more of them, and invites you inside the mind of one of our generations most beloved comedic talents.
