Following its December 2022 premiere, 1923 has already been nominated for a Golden Globe, and as of February, renewed for a Season 2—and there are still several episodes left of its riveting first season to catch.
The American Western drama is the latest of Taylor Sheridan's ever-growing Yellowstone franchise surrounding the legacy of the Dutton family from west of the Mississippi. The franchise began with the 2018 premiere of Paramount's now five-season show, Yellowstone—and now its latest series, 1923, is set around 100 years prior to the original show as the second Yellowstone prequel in the series, following 1883, which was released in December 2021.
1923 won't be the last of the franchise either, as the series also comes ahead of Yellowstone's two anticipated spin-offs: 1883: The Bass Reeves Story, centering on the eponymous Black lawman of the Wild West, and 6666, set on a new ranch from around the same period as the prequels.
Starring Harrison Ford and Marley Shelton, 1923 introduces the latest generation of Dutton family as they struggle to navigate a pandemic-ridden society in which "historic drought, the end of Prohibition and the Great Depression all plague the mountain west and the Duttons who call it home," per the show’s official synopsis. Among the new Dutton family members are the series' latest leading women, which include Emma Dutton (Shelton) and Cara Dutton (Helen Mirren), the respective wives of John Dutton Sr. (James Badge Dale) and Jacob Dutton (Ford).
