One wannabe-Bachelorette contestant shared a Facebook post in response to the announcement of Clare Crawley as the lead.
Jackson Canfield hinted there may have been a sudden change in the Bachelorette casting.
He included info that suggests he was hoping to pursue Madison Prewett as a contestant on the show.
What a week for Bachelor Nation! Peter Weber's unspoiled season is coming to a close, and the new Bachelorette Clare Crawley was announced. Naturally, everyone and their mom weighed in on this pick. But through the noise, one Facebook post stood out.
In a post surfaced by Reality Steve, Jackson Canfield, who'd apparently auditioned to be a contestant on the next Bachelorette, said he was cut after an abrupt casting change on the show. Here's what he has to say:
"Hi guys. Upon the news from GMA this morning… wanted to simply shed some light on obvious questions being asked regarding a certain show, regarding a certain 🌹... just wanted people to hear it from me. I got the call explaining the sudden changes being made in the direction of who was to be chosen for the bachelorette. In their words, in light of the significant age difference, compared to the original possible candidates, they decided to forgo [sic] younger guys, aka me, moving forward with the show. Disappointing, obviously."
He continues: "But, from the very beginning, being this was something that had come about completely unexpectedly, it’s made every moment of the journey an absolute blessing. Trust in the process, His process, not my own wants or expectations, is at an all time high. In my unforgettable time meeting with the casting team/producers, I was so greatly impacted by how kind and genuine they were. People are just awesome. Did not, for a second, feel the least bit qualified to be in the midst of something of this magnitude. Though, when it came to the decision to pursue it or not, as a wise man once said, YOLO.”
"In conclusion, who knows, might have the opportunity to run into a young lady from Auburn that seems pretty, stinking, awesome. Guess I shouldn't get too ahead of myself... *but seriously though if anyone has any contacts/connections help a brother out*" (I think it's called sliding into her DMs.)
Canfield also included a basketball emoji and many references to prayer in his post. Now, who is a hoop star, talks about her faith, and was possibly considered for the next Bachelorette? Only one name comes to mind for me: Madison Prewett.
Is this major news? It could mean Madi was supposed to be the Bachelorette. (So many Easter eggs.) BUT it's also highly unlikely this almost-Bachelorette contestant knew who the leading lady would be before the announcement.
Jed Wyatt, who won and was promptly dumped on Hannah Brown's season of The Bachelorette, said he only found out who he'd be pursuing on the show at the very last minute. “I didn’t know it was gonna be Hannah until two days before,” he said on LAnded Late Night.
Plus, Reality Steve shared spoilers of other Bachelorette frontrunners in advance of today's announcement. The ladies with formal interviews (Kelsey Weier from Pilot Pete's season, Tayshia Adams from Colton Underwood’s season, and Tia Booth from Arie Luyendyk Jr.’s season) were younger than Clare Crawley and could have prompted the quick shift in suitors, too.
