A New 'WandaVision' Fan Theory Explains How the Ending Will Connect to 'Loki'
When we talked to the always-delightful Paul Bettany (who plays Vision in WandaVision) recently, he teased that there's a major cameo coming that no one has guessed yet. And it's not Evan Peters's Pietro. Naturally, fans have been theorizing their butts off to figure out the mystery character's identity.
We came across one that makes too much sense. It comes from the Reddit user who predicted the big Luke Skywalker cameo in The Mandalorian, too: TheMediocreCritic. (Who must be a theory away from nabbing a job in a writer's room at Marvel.) Let's get to it. If you didn't hear, Loki—the upcoming Disney+ show featuring the longtime Thor antihero in the leading role—just got a June 2021 release date. We know that Marvel, of course, loves to tie all of its shows and movies and spinoffs and comic books together. TheMediocreCritic's theory draws an extremely plausible line between WandaVision and Loki. But you need a tiny bit of backstory first.
This is all one, giant clusterfuck of time-traveling and multiversing, but essentially, Loki will star the Loki from 2012's Avengers flick. If you'll remember, he likely warped into an alternate universe when the Avengers tried to snag the Tesseract from his whereabouts in Endgame. We've speculated that Loki will see its antihero become an agent of the Time Variance Authority (TVA), regulating the mutliverse and time-traveling to take part in major historical events. The TVA employment will come in exchange for his sort-of freedom—since Loki flying between universes to begin with probably isn't ideal for the TVA in the first place. Knowing Loki, though, he'll want to bust totally free and start wreaking havoc in the multiverse. Now, check out TheMediocreCritic's theory:
After a decade of imprisonment/ employment in the TVA fixing timelines, Loki finally figures out a way to free himself. Loki enters Westview and manipulates Wanda offering her the one thing that she desires, A Mind stone from another timeline. With a new Mind Stone, she could resurrect Vision. In return, all Loki asks that she frees him. Once free, Loki promptly burns the TVA***” to the ground*** .” With the TVA destroyed, the Multiverse is unpoliced and quickly falls into madness, opening the doors for Kang to enter the world.
Got all that? The TVA sends Loki to Westview, where he does some investigating. Disguises himself as Pietro so he can ask some questions. As TheMediocreCritic points out later, this is why Evan Peters shows up as Pietro, since the X-Men version is the only Pietro Loki came across in the multiverse. Once Loki gets his bearings, he thinks of an an easy trade. Loki gives the Mind Stone to Wanda, which she needs to resurrect Vision. Wanda, being the all-powerful super-person she is, frees Loki from his TVA employment. Loki then does some Loki things, creating so much chaos that he sets the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in motion. From Marvel's end, this move instantly creates a hundred times more hype for Loki—reminding us why Hiddleston plays Marvel's GOAT villain. So don't be surprised if we see that cheeky grin by the time WandaVision wraps up.
