What is Walmart +?
Walmart+ is a paid subscription service where members are offered exclusive benefits. According to a statement from the retailer, Walmart+ is "a membership program that helps put more time back in customers’ day while continuing to save them money." So far, the reported benefits include:
Unlimited free deliveries: Members can enjoy free deliveries, with same-day options available for select products, on more than 160,000 items from tech and toys to household essentials and groceries.
Scan & Go: Say goodbye to long lines and hello to quick and easy contactless pay. Fuel discounts: Walmart+ members will also save up to 5 cents a gallon at nearly 2,000 Walmart, Murphy USA and Murphy Express fuel stations. Sam’s Club fuel stations will also be added to this lineup shortly.
The company notes that more benefits are to come!
How much does Walmart+ cost?
Walmart+ will cost $98 a year or $12.95 a month. A 15-day free trial period will also be available for those looking to test out the service before committing.
Will Walmart still offer regular delivery options for non-members?
Yes! Walmart shoppers who are not Walmart+ members can still take advantage of the retailer’s existing customer offerings which includes free curbside pickup, as well as NextDay delivery and two-day delivery for an additional fee.
How is Walmart+ different from Amazon Prime?
If Walmart+ sounds a lot like Amazon Prime to you, you're not wrong. This new membership essentially follows Amazon Prime's delivery model, but instead of charging $119 a year, Walmart+ costs $98 a year.
While the memberships are very similar, there are a lot of things to take into account when deciding which is the best option for you. According to a study by lendedu, Amazon's prices are typically higher than Walmart's prices across several categories. When it comes to food and beverages, Walmart's prices were estimated to be 4.61% lower than those of Amazon's. Walmart's technology and entertainment prices were also 4.19% below Amazon’s. However, Amazon took the lead when it came to the kitchen appliance and supplies category. Walmart's prices in that category were estimated to be 9.3 percent higher.
One more thing to consider: Amazon Prime includes entertainment perks such as free streaming options of select songs, TV shows, and movies. Members also receive discounts at Whole Foods.
Does Walmart's Delivery Unlimited program still exist?
Previously, Walmart offered a subscription service called Delivery Unlimited which allowed customers unlimited deliveries specifically on grocery orders. It cost the same as Walmart+. All Delivery Unlimited members will automatically become Walmart+ members and can continue to enjoy free grocery deliveries as well as many other additional perks for the same price they've been paying all along.
