  • Currently 65% of Walmart and Sam's Club stores require face coverings.

Joining major retailers like Costco and Starbucks, Walmart and Sam's Club announced on July 15 that all shoppers will be required to wear face masks when shopping at their U.S. locations, calling it "A simple step to help keep you safe." The CDC recommends that all people wear face masks when leaving the home to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

A statement from Dacona Smith, Chief Operating Officer, Walmart U.S., and Lance de la Rosa, Chief Operating Officer, Sam’s Club, says, "To help bring consistency across stores and clubs, we will require all shoppers to wear a face covering starting Monday, July 20. This will give us time to inform customers and members of the changes, post signage and train associates on the new protocols.

The statement explains that Walmart has created the role of Health Ambassador to help make the process "as smooth as possible for customers." This employee will be stationed at the front of each store wearing a black polo shirt to answer questions. At Sam's Club locations, members will be provided a mask if they arrive without one.
