Walmart And Sam’s Club Will Be Administering The COVID-19 Vaccine In 22 States Starting This Week

Walmart and Sam's Club pharmacies can begin distributing the COVID-19 vaccine in 22 states starting on Friday.

The roll-out is part of the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program, which partners the federal government, states and territories, and pharmacies together in an effort to expand and increase COVID-19 vaccinations across the country. More than 1,000 pharmacies inside of Walmart and Sam's Club stores in 22 states will be eligible to administer the vaccine starting on February 12. The company said in a statement that it would be putting an "emphasis on locations that reach customers in underserved communities with limited access to health care." Walmart added that it's already currently administering vaccines under state and location allocations within 11 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.

Walmart noted that requirements to obtain a vaccine will vary based on state and local guidelines. The number of vaccinations available will be limited but is planned to continue to increase each week. Eligible customers can schedule a vaccine appointment directly via the Walmart and Sam’s Club websites once appointments are available. A Sam's Club membership will not be required to get a vaccination at one of their locations.

"Ninety percent of the country lives within 10 miles of a Walmart. We’re at the heart of many rural and underserved communities, and we are committed to providing access to vaccines as groups become eligible,” Dr. Cheryl Pegus, Walmart's executive vice president of Health & Wellness, said in a statement. “Vaccinations to achieve widespread immunity are important for re-opening across the country. We’re proud to work together with the federal government, states, communities, customers, and associates to reach that goal."
