Walmart and Other Grocery Stores Are Removing This Dessert Item From Shelves

·2 min read

Birthday parties and summer sweet treats may be less fun if you accidentally purchased one of these dessert decorations at your local Walmart or other grocery stores. A little colorful sprinkle could set off an allergy, according to a recent recall alert.

Two types of rainbow sprinkles, Rainbow Chip Crunch Sprinkles and Rainbow Sprinkles Mix are being voluntarily recalled by Wilton Industries due to the product label not indicating it contains milk. Some samples of the product were found to contain the known allergen.

The sprinkles are sold in Walmart stores across the U.S. and as well as several other retail distributors and online stores. If you think these may be in your pantry, check for a lot code of 20294Z, 20314Z, 20345Z, 21013Z, and 21022Z for the Rainbow Chip Crunch Sprinkles or 21005Z and 21111Z for the Rainbow Sprinkle Mix.

People with an allergy or sensitivity to milk may be at risk for a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product. Children are particularly susceptible to milk allergies, as it is one of the most common allergies in infants and young children

Milk allergies can range from mild reactions to more severe symptoms. Symptoms include "hives, wheezing, itching or tingling around the lips and mouth, coughing or shortness of breath, and vomiting," according to the Mayo Clinic. Sometimes, in rare cases, anaphylaxis can occur, which is a severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction that requires immediate medical attention.

If you've purchased these products, it is recommended that you either dispose of them or return them at the store you've bought them, where you'll receive a full refund. Currently, Wilton Industries is working to remove both the sprinkle products from grocery store shelves nationwide.

This isn't the first time this year that Wilton Industries has had to issue a nationwide recall for undeclared milk allergens, unfortunately. This Spring right before Easter the company issued a voluntary recall of its Ready to Build Chocolate Cookie Bunny Hutch Kit due to the milk allergen missing from the "Contains" statement on the box.
