Walmart announced Tuesday it is investing $240 million to update and remodel 41 stores across Missouri, including four in Springfield.

In a news release, Walmart said the remodels are intended to give customers an updated experience and expand shopping options. In Springfield, three Walmart Neighborhood Markets and one Walmart Supercenter were selected for remodels:

  • 2825 N. Kansas Expressway

  • 3720 E. Sunshine St.

  • 3150 W. Republic Road

  • 1320 S. Glenstone Ave.

“Our local stores have never been more important to the way we serve customers today, and in the future,” said Annamarie Diamond, Walmart U.S. vice president, regional general manager in a press release. “Nearly 90% of the U.S. population lives within 10 miles of a Walmart, so whether someone is shopping in-store, online, through mobile or Pick Up, our brick-and-mortar stores play a role in fulfilling those orders. These investments will make it easier for our stores and associates to get customers what they want, when they want it.”

All remodeled stores will offer pick up, delivery and Express Delivery (under two hours). These new conveniences will also make the Walmart Plus membership program available to more customers. Walmart Plus benefits include free shipping, free delivery from stores ($35 minimum), and a discount on fuel.

Walmart will also update fixtures, LED lighting and flooring throughout stores. It will have modern updated bathrooms and all remodeled Walmarts will include Walmart Pay, a touch-free way to pay.
