Vote now for the Vermont Varsity Insider Athletes of the Week: Ballots for May 30-June 4

Welcome to the sixth installment of the 2022 spring season for the Vermont Varsity Insider Athletes of the Week voting by high school sports fans.

This week, and every week during the three sports seasons, members of the public may vote for a top girls athlete and a top boys athlete (see below for this week's ballot).

How do I cast my vote?

All voting is through the two ballots, which can be found below. We will not accept votes through email or through social media.

Voting began Monday, June 6, and continues through 11:59 p.m. Thursday.

How do we learn who wins?

The two winners will be announced in a story published at burlingtonfreepress.com on Friday.

Girls Athlete of the Week nominees

More about each candidate:

Madelyn Durkee, Thetford track and field: The junior recorded individual titles in the 400 (1:00.14) and 800 (2:28.63) and nabbed second-place finishes in the 100 and long jump to help Thetford seize the team state crown at Saturday's D-III championships in Windsor.

Lilly Robtoy, Enosburg softball: Robtoy smacked a 2-run home run in Enosburg's D-II playdown win over Rice, and then went 3-for-6 with a pair of doubles and 4 RBIs in the Hornets' triumph over Otter Valley in the quarterfinals.

Delaney Rankin, St. Johnsbury softball: After tossing 4 relief innings of 1-hit ball and 5Ks in St. Johnsbury's 7-6, extra-inning win over CVU, Rankin propelled the Hilltoppers to the D-I upset at Missisquoi in another game that took extras. Rankin went the distance in the circle and her two hits at the plate included the go-ahead, 2-run double in the 11th inning.

Ayla Shea, BFA-St. Albans lacrosse: The goalie collected 8 saves as No. 1 BFA toppled Mount Anthony 14-6 in the D-I quarterfinals on Friday.

Heidi Stewart, Essex track and field: The senior raced to first in the 800 (2:17.93) and lopped 12 seconds off her personal best in the 1,500 (4:37.71) to finish runner-up at Saturday's D-I championships in Burlington. Stewart also ran on Essex's winning 4x400 as the Hornets claimed the team title for the first time since 2014.

Boys Athlete of the Week nominees

More about each candidate:

Andrew Goodrich, Essex baseball: The senior's week included a pair of pitching victories and a walkoff double to advance the Hornets to the Division I semifinals. Against MMU, Goodrich went 4 innings and allowed 2 hits and 2 runs while also going 3-for-4 at the plate with 2 RBIs. Then vs. St. Johnsbury, Goodrich tossed 4 2/3 scoreless frames with 2 hits and 8Ks, and at the plate delivered his second double of the game to score the winning run in the seventh.

Noah Ladeau, Mount Abraham/Vergennes lacrosse: Ladeau popped in the game-tying goal in regulation and then the winning tally in overtime to lead his team to the upset of No. 4 Green Mountain Valley in the D-III quarterfinals. Ladeau finished with four goals in the win.

Everett Mosher, Green Mountain track and field: The senior captured the 400 (51.13), 800 (1:59.96) and 1,500 (4:12.73) to help Green Mountain claim runner-up team honors at the D-IV championships in Manchester on Friday. Mosher also took fourth in the 200 in his 34-point day.

Lyle Rooney, Hazen baseball: Rooney guided top-seeded Hazen into the D-III semifinals with a no-hit performance. He went five innings and fanned 11 batters in the 10-0, five-inning victory over Willilamstown.

Gus Serinese, Champlain Valley track and field: Serinese eclipsed his personal bests in the 110 hurdles (15.59) and 300 hurdles (40.39) to win individual titles at Saturday's D-I championships in Burlington. He also ran a leg on CVU's winning 4x100 relay.
