- There was a major "chair malfunction" during The Voice Blind Auditions.
- Kelly Clarkson and Nick Jonas were abruptly spun backwards in their seats.
- Kelly totally freaked out, while Nick remained calm.
Things took a turn for the worse on The Voice Monday night—literally.
Samuel Wilco's cover of Stevie Wonder's hit song "Lately" inspired both Kelly Clarkson and Nick Jonas to press their buttons and jump to their feet. But after Samuel finished, their chairs seemed to short circuit and abruptly spin backwards while they were still standing. Kelly nearly fell!
"Y'all quit messing with me! I'm in heels!" Kelly shouted, as she clutched her armrests and struggled to stay upright. "Why y'all trying to mess with me?"
It was clear that she thought the unfortunate turn of events was a prank (and probably had something to do with Blake Shelton). Nick, on the other hand, was unfazed.
Fans at home couldn't help but laugh at the coaches' reactions to the "scary" situation, pointing out that Kelly totally "loses it" while Nick stands there "all slick and cool."

John Legend—whose own chair remained facing the audience—was quick to point out that it was probably a "malfunction."
When a production assistant rushed onto the stage to help the coaches, it seemed to confirm John's guess that it was a technical issue and not a planned stunt.
While they worked to resolve the battle with the famous red chairs, Blake waved over his shoulder and congratulated Samuel for making it on The Voice. Luckily, the contestant didn't seem bothered by the unexpected mishap that momentarily distracted everyone.
In the end, Samuel chose to join Team Nick. He said his decision was influenced by how much his kids love the Jonas Brothers singer—but we think it's because the coach showed off how calm he stays under pressure. 😂
