'The Voice' Fans Didn't Realize That Cam Anthony Won a Competition Series Before

In the past 10 years, The Voice has yet to produce a mega star in the music industry. But if there's anyone who can break that unlucky streak, Blake Shelton believes it's Cam Anthony.

"I've never had more people ask me about an artist on my team in 20 seasons of doing this show, man," Blake told Cam after his performance of Hozier's "Take Me to Church" during a live show. "You could be the first superstar that we launch off this show."

Now, Cam is only one show away from winning big. On Tuesday night, The Voice will name its season 20 champion and grant the winner a recording contract with Universal.

What many folks watching The Voice don't realize, however, is that Cam, who is now only 19 years old, has already made major strides in the music industry. According to NBC, "Cam grew up in North Philadelphia and turned to music as an escape from the violence and crime he faced in the city." His first big break came when he was 11. After a video of himself singing a Bruno Mars song went viral, he immediately grabbed the attention of those in the entertainment industry. Soon, Cam was invited to open for Patti LaBelle, sing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and much more. In 2014, he even performed "The Star-Spangled Banner" for the Obamas at the White House at the annual Easter Egg Roll.

According to BroadwayWorld.com, Cam was signed to Dr. Dre's very own "Aftermath Entertainment" record label at 12. Cam released his first single “How Can I Forgive Ya” in 2016 and later dropped “Leave Your Troubles” three years later.

NBC reports that his contract with Dr. Dre's label ended recently (which likely explains why he is trying to make a name for himself on The Voice).

But that's not all this impressive artist has on his quickly growing résumé. As it turns out, Cam has competed on a competition series before when he was 16 years old. For the recent revival of Showtime at the Apollo, Cam ended up winning the entire series in 2018 and appeared on Steve Harvey's talk show soon after to talk about the experience.

In other words, Cam has already seen great success — and if he wins The Voice, which Blake is confident he will do, it'll be another giant step forward in the young artist's career.
