The Battles on The Voice are officially underway, and fans of the NBC singing competition show already have a bone to pick with the coaches.

It all began on Monday during season 21’s premiere of the Battle Rounds when KJ Jennings and Samuel Harness went head-to-head to stay on Team Legend. The singers took the stage and put on a chemistry-filled performance of Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello’s 2015 hit, “I Know What You Did Last Summer.”

After listening to the electrifying duet, coach Kelly Clarkson immediately began raving about KJ’s “really cool runs” but wanted to hear more of Samuel’s edgy voice. Fellow Voice coach Blake Shelton echoed a similar sentiment, adding, “KJ, you both have your strengths … but Samuel has that cool, smoky sound.” Newcomer Ariana Grande also told Samuel how much she loved his voice and tone but was thoroughly impressed by KJ. “I don’t know that I was able to fully appreciate based on your blind audition what I just saw now come to life in a new way,” she said.

In the end, Kelly and Blake favored Samuel while Ariana leaned towards KJ. And ultimately, John Legend chose Samuel as the winner of the battle. While he moved on to the knockouts, KJ was up to steal or save, but no coach took this opportunity. And let's just say, it didn’t go over well with fans watching at home.

“So she is going home? But she was literally AMAZING? Why didn’t anyone steal her? She’s phenomenal and looked like a star,” one person wrote. “They both killed it! Love this song! KJ deserved a steal though,” another added. “Can't believe KJ wasn't stolen. She sounded great,” a different person said. “I like Samuel has a nice tone, but I would have chosen KJ. How did she not get stolen???” a follower commented. “KJ was great and very confident! She already sounds like a star! She shouldn’t of went home,” someone else chimed in.

With that, KJ thanked the coaches for the chance to showcase her talent and she said goodbye. In an off-camera interview, Blake revealed why he didn’t hit his red button for her. “Samuel versus KJ was a good battle, but I like to wait to use my steal because there’s always a battle that happens towards the end of these things that blows people away,” he said.

We wonder whose battle that will be. But right now, we’re wishing KJ all the success in the world on the next adventure she pursues!
