'The Voice' Coach Nick Jonas Totally Called Out Kelly Clarkson and It Was Awkward

From Country Living

  • The Voice coaches Nick Jonas, Blake Shelton, and Kelly Clarkson all turned their chairs for contestant Chelle.

  • Nick had a feisty comeback when Kelly asked if he'd write songs for her.

Nick Jonas may be the new kid on The Voice, but he’s quickly learning how to stand up to his fellow coaches Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, and Blake Shelton.

Sure, they’ve been hazing him a little bit. But he’s finally finding his voice (pun intended), and giving the veterans a run for their money.

Kelly, for example, was on the receiving end of one of his zingers. The Jonas Brothers star was speaking to Chelle, an 18-year-old that he, Kelly, and Blake were fighting over. Nick told Chelle, “You’re the kind of singer that I would die to write songs for.”

So Kelly replied, “Am I the kind of artist you could write songs for?” And please prepare for Nick’s sassy response.

“I think I’ve submitted songs for you that you’ve turned down,” he said. “That’s why I blocked you.”

Kelly was shocked, and the crowds “Ooohs” were deafening. Blake and John appreciated the burn, too, because they’re always looking for ways to pick on Kelly. Don’t worry, though, Kelly took the comeback like a champ, agreeing that she “earned” the earlier Block.

Nick continued to tell the contestant that he’s “fresh blood and eager to dive in” with her, and threw out a few more funny comments to sideline Blake. When Blake tried to convince Chelle that Nick's career began with TV, Nick corrected him very quickly.

“If you actually read the Wikipedia, you would have seen that I started on Broadway at 8 years old,” he said. Yes, Nick get it!

Unfortunately, all of his gumption was for naught, as Chelle ended up on team Kelly. But he gets an A+ for effort!
