Vogue ’s Ultimate Fall Boot Guide Is Here
This weekend may have marked the official end of summer, but the upside is that fall boot season has arrived. We’ve gathered the season’s must-try trends from Fashion Week in London and Milan, where street style stars are wearing everything from knee-high boots in eye-catching animal prints to rugged Chelsea boots (all the better to beat the rain in Paris).
Below, find the best ankle booties, platforms, slip-ons, and lace-up boots at every price.
Animal House
The knee-high boot—a fan favorite of Emily Ratajkowskii and Kendall Jenner last fall—is back this season. And the trendiest versions come in animal prints, which were all over the Fall 2019 runways. Choose among leopard, snake, cow, or zebra, or go for a collaged print that brings them all together.
London Calling
The Chelsea is a perennial classic, but this fall the typically flat boot is getting a major lift. Lug soles, chunky heels, and platforms have replaced sleeker silhouettes. Perhaps it’s a riff on the hiking boots that were trending last winter; in any case, we certainly can’t complain about the practicality and instant edge these stomp-ready boots are giving us this fall.
Vintage Victorian
This fall, ankle boots have been touched with a bit of vintage nostalgia. Witchy geometric heels have met their match with pointed toes and Victorian style lace-ups in both classic neutral leathers and pastel tweeds.
Be a Slouch
Earlier this year, an ’80s vibe swept the Paris runways, with slouchy boots making appearances at Celine, Isabel Marant, and Saint Laurent, to name just a few. The gathered-leather and draped-suede iterations have been seen on the street, too. This fall might just mark the official return of the slouchy, cone-heeled boot.
Fancy Footwork
Who says an evening boot can’t be worn during the day? These embellished, glittering, and feathered boots aren’t just for after dark. Metallics are an easy way to dip into the trend, or try taking a rhinestone-encrusted bootie to the office or on a lunch date. Who says sparkle and shine are just for the nightclub?
