VMAs Host Sebastian Maniscalco's Wife Lana Gomez Rejected Him at First With a Scathing Joke

MTV 2019 VMAs host Sebastian Maniscalco is not at all shy when it comes to using his wife Lana Gomez as material in his standup routines. Quite frequently during his Netflix specials — like Why Would You Do That? and Stay Hungry? – the comedian quips about his and Lana's differences.

But not many people know the story behind how the two got together. In an interview with The Fighter and the Kid, Sebastian revealed that it all started when the two unknowingly shared a personal trainer. One day, Sebastian asked the trainer if he worked with any available women, and that's when Lana got brought up.

And so, Sebastian scheduled a time to train right after his future wife. After talking to her a bit, he asked her while she was on the treadmill if "she wanted to go out with this." Lana, who, as Sebastian says, has a dry, sarcastic sense of humor, joked that she "didn't go out with anybody that has over 13% body fat," and said she'd think about it. Obviously kidding, she eventually accepted and the rest, as they say, is history.

Sebastian and Lana ended up getting married in 2013. Since then, both of their careers have blossomed. After performing over 100 stand-up sets and releasing several comedy specials for Showtime, Sebastian cracked Forbes's list of the world's highest-paid comedians in 2017. He has also released several Netflix specials, appeared on Jerry Seinfeld's Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, and acted in Tag, Green Book, and Cruise.

Meanwhile, Lana has been super successful in her career as a painter and sculptor. She has worked with famed interior designer Kelly Wearstler and had her pieces featured all over, including in the Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills and in publications such as House Beautiful, The New Yorker, and InStyle.

Today, Lana and Sebastian are parents to 2-year-old Serafina Simone and 2-month-old Caruso Jack. Now that the couple have two adorable kids, they're both constantly sharing adorable snaps of their family, like this one:
