Virginia Couple Moves Wedding Ceremony To Adopt Puppy: “It Was Love At First Sight”

That old saying, “when you know, you know,” applies to dogs too.

A young Virginia couple accomplished more milestones in a single day last month than most people do in a year.

On October 26, two days before their wedding, Eduardo and Regan Del Pozo visited Fairfax County Animal Shelter in search of a rescue puppy. There they fell in love with a four-month-old German shepherd mix named Daisy, but the pup wasn’t available for adoption until the grand opening of the shelter's new branch on October 28th… their wedding day.

"It was love at first sight," Regan told People. "She's so sweet."

In order to have the best chance of adopting Daisy, the couple would need to be at the shelter when it opened at 11 a.m. that day, which was when their ceremony was scheduled to start.

According to People, Eduardo and Regan asked their officiant, close friends, and family if they could move the wedding to 9 a.m. They all agreed.

The couple, both sergeants in the Marine Corps serving as military police at Quantico, said “I do,” posed for photos, and rushed to Fairfax County Animal Shelter’s new location in Lorton.

"I was in my suit, and she was still in her dress," Eduardo recalled.

Rebecca Cavedon, the shelter's communications manager, told Southern Living that the newlyweds were first in line that morning.

“When our staff brought Daisy out to her new parents, the room erupted in cheers and applause,” she said.

People reports that Eduardo and Regan surprised their guests by bringing the puppy to the wedding reception.

"It symbolized us starting our own family," Eduardo said. "My wife and I are beyond excited."
