Virgin River actor reveals season 4 baby plot twist was their idea
Virgin River season four finally arrived on screens last week, and that lovely lot at Netflix have really treated us with this one. After we were left with *so* many frustratingly unanswered questions, the season four finale ultimately resolved at least a few of them (although we still got our fair share of cliffhangers). *Spoilers ahead*.
One of the bigger mysteries running throughout season four was, of course, the father of Mel's baby. Viewers were left wondering whether Mark (who sadly died in season 3) or Jack would turn out to be the real dad. The S4 ending finally confirmed it: Jack is indeed the father.
And there's more good stuff when it comes to the baby storyline, with one cast member revealing that the plot twist was actually their idea. Who else loves it when actors get involved behind the scenes?
Following season four, cast member Alexandra Breckenridge, who plays Mel, has shared that she was a driving force behind the decision to make Jack the father.
In an interview with TVLine, she explained, "I was gunning for that storyline. I was adamant that it shouldn’t be Mark’s baby."
Alexandra also touched on another season four plot twist, namely Charmaine's revelation to Jack that he isn't the father of her twins. The actor explained, "I was also like, ‘I think Charmaine having [Jack’s] kids is absolutely bananas as well.'
"I got my wishes at the end of the season, because that wasn’t really the plan for a minute. I think they were planning to have them go the other direction. I was like, ‘You’re all insane!'"
She went on, "I don’t know if I made that happen, but I was definitely the squeaky wheel about it. Every chance I got, I was like, 'Are you sure we want to do this? I don’t know if it’s the right direction.'"
Hey, we'd say she's making all the right calls! As for what's in store for season five, we reckon Alexandra will be firmly on top of it all.
