The 2023 Abloh Skateboarding Invitational will host legends and emerging talent and is quickly becoming one of the most iconic skate events of the year. The event will feature a best trick competition, a public free skate session, and a live DJ set to celebrate the community that Virgil Abloh deeply cared for and his ever present legacies in skate culture.
The four-day programming will kick off with photographer Atiba Jefferson’s exhibition, opening December 6, showcasing his work from his 25-year career featuring Virgil’s friends and collaborators and elevating Black voices in the skate space. The exhibition brings together skate’s top talents, recognizing the significance of Atiba and showcases how Black culture is embedded in skate culture.
In addition to the exhibition and the main skate event, a full day of the second annual Abloh Skateboarding Invitational (Sunday, December 10) will be dedicated to community programming. This initiative, called “FREE GAME,” will grant the next generation of skaters and creatives exclusive access to prominent figures and innovators within the skateboarding realm. The program will include a series of workshops, clinics, tutorials, training sessions and moderated discussions with leaders from the global design, art and skateboarding communities.
