On Wednesday, Fences actress Viola Davis appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. While one highlight of her appearance was her friendly participation in a “Best Friends Challenge,” which Davis and Fallon both failed to win, we couldn’t help but notice how even and smooth her skin was.

The 51-year-old kicked back in a figure-flattering cream dress, blue smoky eye shadow, and cherry red lipstick. But, her beautiful brown skin was the real MVP of her overall look.

One key product that might have played a major role in her skin’s superior suppleness is something Davis has been applying for years: Vaseline. In an interview with Yahoo Beauty, she opened up about her struggles with dry skin and how Vaseline is a go-to for instant relief.

Davis said, “Oh, my entire life it’s been a struggle. I’m an African-American so you see my dry skin. They call it ‘ash.’ We say ‘it looks like you’ve been rolling around in some flour.’”

The drugstore staple became a lifesaver for Davis, and has been passed on for generations in her family. She said, “So, I struggled because I grew up in poverty so we had to use Vaseline. It was affordable, it was readily available, and it worked wonders most importantly. And it was multipurpose. My sister used it when she burnt the whole side of her face making sugar candy — it soothed her burns. We had a lot of dry, cracked skin that ended up being cracked in our joints, and the Vaseline soothed that. And I still use it to this day on my daughter and on the bottom of my feet. It’s my go-to product.”

If Davis is a huge fan of Vaseline, it’s probably a great idea to run to your nearest drugstore to stock up too, especially during the cold winter months when dry air sucks all the moisture out of your skin.

A few other great products that yield glowing skin are Jergens Crema Deep-Conditioning Shea Butter, which has a nourishing blend of pure African shea butter and natural oatmeal, and Kiehl’s Creme de Corps Soy Milk & Honey Whipped Body Butter, with its moisturizing mix of jojoba oil and squalane. Also, an exfoliating body scrub such as Ahava Smoothing Body Exfoliator is great for sloughing away dead skin cells and revealing smooth, silky skin just like Davis’s.
