Vince Resort 2022

At Vince, creative director Caroline Belhumeur designs collections that are meant to be a part of her customer’s wardrobe for longer than just a season. And Belhumeur’s latest work — which delivers in November and December — offers updates to brand codes that will fall right in line with a post-pandemic world, where people will attend events, parties and travel. “We had no idea what the world would be like when we were designing,” she said, “but we thought there was hope of the horizon.”

Belhumeur looked to a silent movie from the 1920s, “Our Dancing Daughters,” which she explained had a naivete mixed with joyfulness and exuberance that helped inspire her work.

The look: Feminine shapes imbued with textures and fabrications that create a mix of sophisticated wardrobe builders in neutrals but with a healthy dose of pinkish purples, stripes and a few floral prints.

Quote of note: “We wanted the idea of joyful moments of reconnection to come across in the collection, through pops of color and pattern.”

Key pieces: Leather pieces, like coats with fur collars; a robust knit program, including a jacquard knit bustier; hand-knit cardigans a mix crushed velvet separates; slipdresses — a Vince staple — done with touches of tonal cascading beading that mimic the look of a simple necklace over the bust; exaggerated sleeves on a mix of tops, cinched jacket shirts, and faux fur coats.

The takeaway: Belhumeur continues to give her customer a lot of versatility in her pieces, supplying a full wardrobe where texture and subtle embellishments are the stars that help bring her clothing to life.
