A built-in home library is practically a dream come true for avid book readers or even those who love to style bookcases and need more room to display decor. One TikToker showed how to DIY one using IKEA furniture, and it’s the perfect hack if you don’t want to invest in custom built-ins.

TikToker @rivercityhome shared a video outlining the steps and necessary supplies to create the look of a corner built-in library. The couple used IKEA Billy bookcases and height extension units for them. Using guides, they lined up the shelves where they wanted them. They installed trim, connected the bookcases together, and secured them with studs in the walls. As a final touch, sconces give the shelves a true library look. The remaining holes between the bookcases were filled in with spackle, and the excess was sanded off. The bookcases were then painted the same color as the trim, Worldly Gray by Sherwin-Williams. The final step, of course, was to fill the shelves with books and decor!

While this DIY does take some effort, it’s worth it for the final look. In the comments, the creator shared that the whole DIY cost about $500 in materials. That’s way cheaper than built-in ones that average anywhere between $1,500 to $4,000, according to Fixr. If you need a new at-home project that doubles as a money-saving hack, this one’s a solid and stunning option.
