Victoria's Secret Introduced Its First Model With Down Syndrome And I'm Like, "Finallllllly"

On Thursday, Victoria's Secret announced its latest collection, "The Love Cloud."

According to their website, the campaign features "18 dynamic women from a myriad of backgrounds."

And one of those women is Sofía Jirau. She is the first Victoria's Secret model with Down Syndrome to be featured by the iconic brand.

Sofía celebrated this amazing accomplishment on her Instagram by posting this VS debut photo.

"One day I dreamed of it, I worked on it, and today it is a dream come true. I can finally tell you my big secret," Sofía captioned the post.

"I am the first Victoria's Secret model with Down Syndrome!" she continued.

"There are no limits!" she said. The way I am so fricken proud of someone I've never met right now.

It's important to note that Victoria's Secret hasn't exactly been at the forefront of diversity. They've always been a little behind when it comes to inclusion and representation.

Their brand has consistently touted unrealistic body expectations. For example, a campaign they ran back in 2014 was originally called, “The Perfect Body,” but the name of the campaign was changed after they received immense backlash online.

And the former chief marketing officer Ed Razek once came under fire after he was asked in a Vogue interview why there aren't trans models in their fashion show. "I don’t think we should," he said. "Well, why not? Because the show is a fantasy. It’s a 42-minute entertainment special. That’s what it is."

So yeah, it's great to see Victoria's Secret pushing for more diversity, and it's great to see Sofía achieving her dream.

Once again, congrats, Sofía!!! <3
