Breaking: the mid-century modern craze is just a cover for America’s true favorite design trend. Apparently, the most popular style of the moment is...victorian.

Data complied by Google Trends and furniture brand Joybird revealed the historic style was the most-searched design trend across the U.S. Characterized by victorian homes with wrap-around porches, stained glass, and ornate accessories, the country's taste in decor was quite dramatic.

The trend report broke down the data even further, identifying which styles had the highest search volume by state. Ten states - Nevada, Nebraska, Missouri, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maine, Vermont and Delaware - searched victorian the most. Bohemian decor came in second.

Other popular decor styles included contemporary, industrial and shabby-chic. Surprisingly, mid-century modern only ranks as the number one most searched style in two states: Washington and Minnesota. Coastal decor is a lone wolf only getting love from South Carolina. Art Deco, vintage and modern farmhouse are also among the design styles ranking number one in just a single state.

However, no one feels more alone today than rustic lovers. The design style did not rank number one in any state. Turns out, historic decor is having a major renaissance instead.
