Once upon a time, in a land far away, people regarded vests as items for layering, either over or under other garments. But that was the past, and now is now, and right now, vests are taking center stage as standalone tops. Don’t just take my word for it; celebrities everywhere are also wearing vests on their own, including Katy Perry, Camila Cabello, and Whitney Port.

There are so many different types of vests on the market, whether they’re halter-top vests perfect for a night on the town or buttoned-up vests suitable for any occasion. Personally, I love the ones that transition seamlessly from day to night. You can wear them to the office without leaning too “casual” but still look dressy enough to grab drinks with friends post work if the opportunity presents itself.

Just because people are starting to wear vests as tops now that it’s hot out definitely doesn’t mean you can’t also layer them. When it comes to price per wear, vests are a great option because in the winter, you can style them with turtlenecks and jackets, and in the summer, you can wear them on their own, creating entirely different looks. Sweater vests, in particular, are a great buy because they’re perfect for that hard-to-dress-for, in-between season.

So, if you’re on the hunt for the best vest (say that five times fast!), you’ve come to the right place. Vests take up 90 percent of my wardrobe, and I can’t help but add more to my cart. Keep scrolling for some of our faves.
