You’ve Got to See This Pineapple-obsessed Bride’s Wedding

Ashley Thomas has loved pineapples for as long as she can remember. For her, they represent tropical bliss, happiness, and warmth-exactly the ideals she wanted to bring to her wedding and marriage, so she gave these spiny fruits a starring role in her May 2016 wedding to Jon Thomas.

Ashley, a recent addition to the Coastal Living staff as Photo Assistant, married Jon on the beaches of Avon, North Carolina, on the Outer Banks. Their wedding, complete with Ashley’s favorite fruit, brightly covered beach balls, and a sangria bar, was a breezy, joyful event that perfectly matched its oceanfront setting.

“We wanted it to be a party,” says the bride of the celebration.

And, from the lovely pictures by photographers Luke & Ashley, it’s clear that all the guests-plus the bride and groom, of course-had a blast. Ceremony attendees threw beach balls in the air as the newly married couple walked up the aisle together, and at the reception at The Koru Village Beach Klub, the bride forwent the traditional bouquet toss in favor of a pineapple toss (no one was harmed in the tossing of this pineapple!).

Gold pineapples served as centerpieces at the reception, surrounded by the bright wedding palette of tropical oranges, pinks, greens, and purples. Pineapple-shaped cookies made delicious treats; the bride even posed with pineapples during her bridal shoot. Pineapples weren’t just limited to the wedding, though: They also played a role in Ashley and Jon’s engagement. Jon proposed right after a visit to Hawaii’s famous Dole Plantation, surrounded by pineapple plants.

The bride’s favorite touches? The custom suit made by her grandmother for the happy couple’s dog, Max; the pineapple cookies and cake served at the reception (made by Ashley’s friend and bridesmaid); and Ashley’s blooming bouquet. Other highlights include the pineapple aisle decorations at the oceanfront ceremony and the bridesmaids’ floor-length, floral-print dresses.
