‘This Is Us’ Fans Are Not Okay After Beth and Randall’s Blowout Fight
Warning, this post contains spoilers about This Is Us episode, “R&B”
Listen, I’m pretty sure there’s an entire writers room getting off on your fear that Randall and Beth Pearson are heading toward divorce. Last night's episode features the blowout fight between Beth and Randall (aka my fictional mom and dad, Susan Kelechi Watson and Sterling K. Brown) after a very poorly thought out voicemail left on her phone. Grow the hell up? Come on, Randall. You’re better than this.
But the fight was about so much more than just Randall’s misplaced jab at Beth. Throughout the altercation (which is heart-wrenching in and of itself), This Is Us flashes back throughout R&B’s relationship-from their first date to proposals (plural) to their wedding day to the events of season one. Turns out, Beth has a pattern of giving up parts of herself to meet Randall’s needs. Now, whether the blame for this falls on Randall or Beth, is up to you...but it’s more likely an uncomfortable mix of the two.
Still, I would like to point out that this couple is the best at fighting. Neither Beth nor Randall talk over each other, and while Randall concludes that Beth’s frustrations are “revisionist history,” you can’t say he didn’t listen to what she was saying. Unfortunately, the episode ends with Randall choosing to sleep in his new office in Philly over their home, but something in my gut tells me that they are going to get through this. But if you’re a wreck, trust me, America and Twitter is with you. Here’s what fans of This Is Us had to say, because, like Randall, I’m all out of speeches (sorry).
The rest of us bums don’t stand a chance if Beth and Randall can’t make it. #ThisIsUs pic.twitter.com/Nrrs4qvqqb
