Fall is a few weeks away, which means the return of our favorite fall TV show — a.k.a. This Is Us — is right around the corner ... or, so we thought until we saw show creator Dan Fogelman's recent tweet.

While past seasons of This Is Us have come out in late September, the coronavirus pandemic may end up delaying the season 5 premiere date. After all, per Dan's tweet on August 16, production for the next season has not yet started, and, as Mandy Moore revealed back in July on the Today show, right after Independence Day is typically when the cast and crew go back to work.

Apart from the season 5 premiere date question, Dan went on to say he was "sorry" and provided more "vague #ThisIsUs answers" to other big questions, including if the show will address COVID-19 and if it'll affect the show's eventual ending.

Writing back to one fan in particular, Dan tweeted, "Not sure yet on production start. - Not sure when new eps will air. - Yes on Covid. We've decided to attack things head on. Very proud of @ThisIsUsWriters - Same planned ending. Same route to get there."

As for how Dan and the This Is Us writers' room will "attack things head on" when it comes to the pandemic, that remains a mystery. What we do know now, though, is that Dan is going full steam ahead on his original ending, which showrunner Isaac Aptaker seemed to hint will come in season 6. Last spring, Sterling K. Brown spilled to Entertainment Weekly that the season 3 flash-forward scene that featured Rebecca in the future lying in bed at Kevin's house, was what the rest of the series will be building toward.

Knowing that the end is likely just two short seasons away, maybe we are okay waiting a bit longer for new episodes to come out ...
