Uniqlo Is Here to Solve Your Fall Wardrobe

Uniqlo built its empire on affordable, no-nonsense basics like shirts and socks, but in recent years the beloved retailer has undeniably upped its capital-F fashion game. That’s included high-profile collaborations with designers like Alexander Wang and Jonathan Anderson, and even hiring Christophe Lemaire to lead design to run its Uniqlo U sub-label. With the end of summer just around the corner, two notable fall collections from Uniqlo have popped up—and either one is a surefire way to upgrade your closet this fall.

The first is the latest drop from the U line, which includes a variety of Lemaire-designed essentials for the fall and winter seasons. For outerwear, there are corduroy blazers, padded puffer jackets, and duffle coats. Other staples like mock neck sweaters, ribbed cardigans, and sturdy flannels help round out the collection. (Plus, the classic boxy tees and sweatshirts, a signature of sorts for Lemaire and now a constant within the Uniqlo U lineup, make their regular appearance.) Like every Lemaire-designed collection, the shapes look luxurious, and the materials are innovative. It's Uniqlo, which is good, but ever-so-slightly tweaked, which is even better.

The second collection we're jazzed about is a second droplet from Uniqlo's collaboration with the Americana interpreters at Engineered Garments. The clothes carry a not-insignificant military influence and stick to a color palette of black, grey, navy, and olive. (They'll slide into your existing wardrobe with ease.) Items like collarless coats, chunky knit sweaters, and warm-weather fleece pullovers all feel as utilitarian as they do fashionable.

These new collections are precisely what Uniqlo does best: offering a more affordable version of in-demand styles with next-level involvement from designers and brands people love. Both drops aren’t available for purchase just yet—the latest Uniqlo U goods will hit shelves on September 26, and the Engineered Garments collection is reported to trickle out in early October. Mark your calendars—your fall wardrobe will thank you for it.
