With much of the country staying at home, DIY beauty routines have gotten a serious makeover. We've mastered the at-home manicure,, given ourselves facials, and even moonlighted as hair colorists—some more successful than others. This week, we're shifting focus to tense muscles—the result of sitting too much, not walking enough, and anxiety-inducing headlines that don't seem to stop. Unable to get a massage, I've turned to my Theragun device for relief.
Since its launch in 2016, Theragun has become a must-have for many professional athletes and gym enthusiasts alike. The portable percussive massage device reaches deep into muscles to stimulate blood flow, ushering in oxygen for better mobility and recovery. It can be a life-changer, even for those who are less sporty. I don't like to travel without it—the gadget is especially helpful for my lower back after a long flight—and even more so when I’ve worn a pair of stilettos for 15 hours straight. Lately, although I've swapped my heels for a pair of comfy Gucci slides, the Theragun literally helps me get out of bed in the morning, when I've amassed so much tension in my shoulders that sitting up is unbearable. So imagine my excitement when I learned that the brand had launched a shiny new toy: a mini version of the original that's lighter, smaller, just as powerful, and almost half the price.
The Theragun mini is a three-speed massager that comes in at just under $200. The matte black finish makes it looks more like something you'd see on the second floor of MoMA than in an at-home gym. Use it before bed, after a workout or even while you're watching Netflix. And when we're able to travel again, the mini will no doubt serve as a way more practical carry-on accessory, weighing just 1.5 lbs. Consider it the body care quarantine hero you didn't know you needed.
