It’s super easy to think that Margot Robbie, obscenely beautiful human being and talented actress loved by many, didn’t go through a messy phase during her earlier 20s given how wonderful her career turned out, right? Wrong! Apparently, Margot used to date a man who was so in love with John Cena that he had a literal cardboard cutout of John at the side of their bed…which Margot then had to sleep next to for the entire duration of their relationship. True story!

Margot appeared on last night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live with John—who now happens to be her Suicide Squad costar—and told the audience about her and John’s equal parts weird and hilarious backstory before they started working together.

“I watched WWE when I was growing up; when I was a kid, I loved The Undertaker,” Margot told guest host Anthony Anderson. “And then obviously when I was a teenager, I stopped watching. But then as a late teen, early 20s, I had a boyfriend who was obsessed with John Cena. So much so that he dressed as John Cena for his 21st birthday and had a cardboard cutout in his bedroom.”

But believe it or not, it gets worse. Margot then said she actually “slept in a room for two years with a life-size cardboard cutout of John Cena in the room” and revealed that she would often be scared by cardboard cutout John Cena in the dead of night when waking up. “And then I’d be like, ‘Oh, it’s just John Cena, it’s okay,’” Margot added.

When Margot learned that she’d be working on The Suicide Squad set with John, she decided that she wanted to keep the cutout a secret to avoid any awkwardness (understandable!). That didn’t work out though—Margot said she ended up spilling “five seconds into meeting him [John].”
