Vanessa Papa from The Ultimatum: Queer Love has responded to criticism of her behaviour on the show, after viewers took to social media to call her out over the way she treated Lexi and Rae.

If you're sleeping on Netflix's The Ultimatum: Queer Love, WHAT ARE YOU DOING? The show sees couples enter into an experiment where one of them wants to get married and has given an ultimatum, while the other one is unsure what they want. To test their relationship, the pairs switch partners for three weeks, before reuniting, to see if they're going to get engaged.

One person who caused a lot of drama on the show is Vanessa, who positioned herself between couple Lexi and Rae for the partner-swap part of the challenge. Some viewers called her out for her treatment of both Lexi and Rae, insisting she was on the show for the wrong reasons.

Now, though, Vanessa has spoken out to defend herself, insisting she felt overwhelmed and misunderstood during the experiment. "Looking back, I see things I've always known about me highlighted, like I'm sarcastic in almost every response," she told Entertainment Weekly. "Whether it's a sad situation or an infuriating situation, I'm very sarcastic. Being under the scrutiny of being filmed 24/7 I really leaned into that and it wasn't taken well. I have this kind of permanent smile and people mistook that as being mischievous or fake, but it's always been there. I'm working on it now."

She continued, "What people were judging me off of a lot was what they were hearing through the grapevine. I tried to be upfront about my reservations about marriage as an institution and I probably didn't word it well or say it clearly enough for most people."

Responding to claims she was on the show to get famous, Vanessa added, "My response is that every single person who was there chose to be on TV. I was absolutely no different."

As we all know, reality TV and dating shows go through an editing process, and hours of footage have to be condensed down into specific episodes, so we definitely should take everything we see with a pinch of salt.

The Ultimatum: Queer Love is now streaming on Netflix.
