These Two Costco Drinks Are Being Pulled From Warehouse Shelves

·2 min read

Over 50 protein products labeled under several types of brands sold at grocery stores all across the county are part of a new recall because they could contain bacteria that can cause fever, vomiting, and urinary tract infection. But shoppers should be extra cautious because Costco is alerting them that some were sold in warehouses as recently as a few days ago.

On July 29, food company Lyons Magnus alerted customers via the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) website that 53 products could be contaminated with rare, but dangerous microorganisms, including Cronobacter sakazakii.

Two of these brands were sold via the popular warehouse chain.

Costco members, listen up.

Because Costco tracks all products each member sells, it can quickly alert those who purchased a particular item if something goes wrong. That's the case here—members who purchased the Premier Protein 18-count pack of 11-ounce Vanilla or Café Latte shakes between May 1 and July 29, 2022, should check the packaging.

"Only Premier Protein shakes with the letters BT in the product code are impacted by this recall. To identify whether the product you have is affected check the lot number on your package, which is visible on the outer case or the top of the shake carton," the alert for the protein drink says. "If your product is part of this recall, do not use it and return it to your local Costco for a full refund."

The other drink brand impacted is the Glucerna shakes in Vanilla, Chocolate, and Strawberry. The 8-ounce cartons come in a 24-pack at Costco. Anyone who purchased any of the three flavors between June 6 and July 27 should check for certain lot and UPC numbers, which can be found here.

Other brands involved include…

Lyons Magnus says that in total 53 food products from 12 different brands including the two above are included in this recall. Others are Aloha, Intelligentsia, Oatly, MRE, Stumptown, and more. To see the full list, click here.

The FDA alert says that no illnesses related to these products have been reported. A "preliminary root cause analysis" showed the products didn't meet "commercial sterility specifications" and therefore the recall was issued.
