Take-Two CEO Says 'GTA 6' Leak Was "Terribly Unfortunate" But Won't Influence Development
Following the major leak back in September, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of the parent company of Rockstar Games, Take-Two, has now offered a public statement regarding the future of the highly-anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 title. The leak was perpetrated by a 17-year-old associated with the hacking group Lapsus$, who accessed an internal Rockstar Slack channel.
In a second-quarter earnings call, Zelnick noted that the high-profile data leak would not impact the development of GTA 6 at Rockstar Games. "With regards to the leak, it was terribly unfortunate, and we take those sorts of incidents very seriously indeed." Rockstar does not anticipate any long-term effects as a result of the incident that leaked open-world gameplay footage from an alpha build of GTA 6. "There’s no evidence that any material assets were taken, which is a good thing, and certainly the leak won’t have any influence on development or anything of the sort, but it is terribly disappointing and causes us to be ever more vigilant on matters relating to cybersecurity."
