Twitter praises 'Real Housewives' for showing more Puerto Rico realness than the news

On The Real Housewives of New York City, Bethenny Frankel traveled to Puerto Rico, post-Hurricane Maria, to continue her disaster relief efforts.

Frankel, who was joined by fellow housewife Dorinda Medley, was taken on a tour by a charity partner, who showed the housewives that, even though the hurricane had hit several months before, Puerto Rico still looked as if it had happened yesterday.

With $125,000 in cash cards, Frankel and her team traveled around the island to distribute money to people in need. “It’s not that easy to distribute six figures in cash cards, because I’m not just giving it to some organization,” Frankel said. “I need to see where it’s going.”

One woman, touched by Frankel’s act of kindness, told her that she was the first person from the states to bring them actual money. Frankel shared, “We have heard dozens upon dozens of times, ‘You’re the only person who’s come here, and you’re the only person who’s given us money.’ None of the money that is advertised is getting to the people.”

RHONY fans loved that Bravo included footage from Puerto Rico in the episode, and fans took to Twitter to praise the housewife’s efforts, with tweets like:

Frankel and Medley said Puerto Ricans’ resilience puts things into perspective and serves as a reminder for gratitude. “I never want to hear that statement, when people say, ‘Oh, I could never,'” Medley said. “Yeah, you’d be surprised what you could do when you have to do it. And the amazing thing is the people that do it with such pride and dignity.” Frankel added, “We are so out of touch with our eyelashes and our selfies and our bulls***, and, literally, people don’t have the basics.”

The Real Housewives of New York City airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on Bravo.
