TikTok’s new ‘twisted bacon’ hack has home chefs divided: ‘Why are y’all making dog treats?’

A mega-viral “twisted bacon” recipe is TikTok’s latest, greatest food hack.

The trendy snack follows in a long line of recipes to take the app’s users by storm. TikTokers love a viral recipe, whether it’s giant pans of “feta pasta,” tiny, decorative cups of “baked oats” or bowls full of “nature’s cereal.”

Twisted bacon is, in many ways, simpler than all of those dishes. In fact, that’s one reason some users seem so confused — or even grossed out — by its popularity.

In essence, the twisted bacon recipe involves simply rolling bacon strips into long, thin twirls. Apparently, this method makes the bacon perfectly crispy.

It’s unclear exactly where the hack started, but it seems like the earliest version to go viral came from the popular TikTok page, House of Keto. After several others shared the concept in late March, popular food TikToker Jackie Hartlaub followed up with her own version.

In Hartlaub’s clip, which drew millions of views, the home chef started by curling a massive pack of bacon and laying the pieces along a parchment-lined baking sheet. She then cooks the bacon in her oven at 350 degrees for 40 minutes, stopping to flip the pieces halfway through.

Many viewers were clearly blown away by the hack, as countless TikTokers have proceeded to swear by the method after trying it themselves. However, others users weren’t so excited.

“But it’s just bacon rolled up,” one commenter wrote on Hartlaub’s clip.

“I’ve gotta wait 40 minutes to eat my bacon?” another added.

Meanwhile, some simply found the twisted bacon unappetizing.

“Why are y’all making dog treats?” one user joked.

“Ma’am you fry your bacon don’t bake it,” another added.
