When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex took the first steps towards launching their own charitable foundation, they knew that they wanted a trusted and experienced team around them. And the first person they turned to was British television presenter Kirsty Young who has today been announced as a trustee of Sussex Royal.

Young is the latest in a string of appointments that have been revealed as Harry and Meghan begin to carve out their own path separate from the Cambridges with whom they once shared a foundation.

Schedules meant that the formal paperwork for Young’s role was not completed until today, but a source revealed how the Sussexes turned to her first as a “trusted friend, respected journalist” and the president of the global children’s charity Unicef U.K.

Television and radio presenter Young fronted the BBC’s coverage of Harry and Meghan’s wedding last May while her husband Nick Jones was a guest at the event. He is the founder of private members club Soho House, where Harry and Meghan spent time when they were dating.

A foundation spokesman said today: “I can confirm that Kirsty Young will be joining Professor Stefan Allesch-Taylor, Steven Cooper and Karen Blackett OBE as a trustee of Sussex Royal. She has therefore been added to the filing of the CLG.”

He added that Sussex Royal is formally due to launch in 2020, and “we are looking forward to sharing more details in the coming months.”
