TV chef Carla Hall says her mom was concerned about her being 42 and single. Then, online, she met her husband, Matthew Lyons.

You might think that online dating is a millennial thing. But chef and former co-host of The Chew Carla Hall, who met her husband, Matthew Lyons, at the age of 42, says that they would never have met without the help of technology.

“We actually met on Match.com,” Hall tells Yahoo Lifestyle. “I was 42 and single. My mother would call me every Saturday, saying, ‘Carla, are you going out? Are you going to church? Are you doing anything? Are you going to the grocery store? What are you doing outside? What are you doing?'”

And although she admits she wasn’t dating, it didn’t take much for her friends to persuade Hall to sign up for the matchmaking website. Luckily, it worked out.

“When he found me, it was the first day that I actually had gone onto Match.com,” she says.

The pair first met when they went on their first date, after chatting on the site. Lyons had been using the service to meet women after getting divorced. And already, he knew that Hall was the one.

“I remember as soon as I saw her, my immediate thought was, ‘I’m done,'” Lyons recalls.

Hall didn’t pull her hand away when he reached out across the table. From there, it quickly progressed.

“He kissed me,” she exclaims. “I don’t know how long it had been since I’d been kissed.”

That sealed the deal for her.

The next year, the pair jumped straight into getting a marriage certificate in early February, without any official proposal. What came next was an impromptu ceremony in the home of the justice of the peace, over a month before their official wedding.

“It’s like we have two dates,” Lyons clarifies. “Feb. 12, but our wedding date is April 29.”

“So those family members that didn’t know this,” Hall says. “Sorry.”

Hall’s latest cookbook, Carla Hall’s Soul Food: Everyday and Celebration, is out now.
