The TSA Just Banned the 'Star Wars' Coke Bottles That Look Like Grenades...Because They Look Like Grenades

Disney's Galaxy Edge theme park is the closest things Star Wars fans can get to the Galaxy Far, Far Away. You can tour the Millennium Falcon. Hang out at a real-life Cantina. And you can even get Blue Milk. The park—which is located in Orlando's Disney World resort and will soon open at Disneyland in Anaheim, California—also gives fans access to lots of Star Wars-themed goodies. That includes glass bottles of soda that look like thermal detonators, a.k.a. the space grenades that characters have used to blow things up for decades throughout the franchise. And, as you might expect, people are trying to bring them home as souvenirs (they look cool as hell). But the TSA isn't so happy about it.

The Star Wars-styled Coke and Sprite bottles, which feature lettering in Aurebesh, the fictional language of George Lucas's iconic series, have been officially banned by the Transportation Security Administration. Can you blame it? The neat little jugs look exactly like explosive devices, and with everything else the TSA has to deal with on a daily basis, it's no wonder it's cracking down on anything—even souvenir soda bottles—that looks remotely like a bomb.

"Even with a normal bottle cap, this item is still considered a replica and is not allowed in carry-on or checked bags," the official @AskTSA account tweeted on Tuesday after getting a question about the Star Wars bottles. "If our officers discover a replica item during screening and believes it's real, the item will be treated as such until advised otherwise by law enforcement."

However, the good news is, you're still allowed to bring your Darth Maul replica double-sided lighstaber—or any lightsaber for that matter—along on your flight. The TSA website explicitly states that the powerful Kyber Crystal swords are indeed allowed in both checked bags and carry-on bags, stating, "Sadly, the technology doesn't currently exist to create a real lightsaber. However, you can pack a toy lightsaber in your carry-on or checked bag. May the force be with you." So, for the record, laser swords are in, but space bombs are out. Good to know.

Galaxy's Edge has been crushing it at Disneyland since May, with an upcoming ride called Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance coming to the parks later this winter. I'm very mad that I still haven't had a chance to visit. Ugh. Adulthood stinks.
